Year of the Snake & Year of the Dress

2013 is the year of the Snake. The year of Snake is meant for steady progress and doc511313327e82f482166008attention to detail. It is the most enigmatic, intuitive, introspective, refined, and collected of the Animals Signs. Ancient Chinese wisdom says a Snake in the house is a good omen because it means that your family will not starve. Snakes are also very insightful and naturally intuitive. If anyone has a sixth sense, it’s those born in the Snake year. This is partly what makes them so mysterious. Snakes come in all varieties of colors and patterns and maybe that’s why people born in the Snake year love to appreciate beauty. People with the Chinese zodiac snake sign are very stylish, fashionable, and have exceptional taste.

Ruffian lace dress nymagSpeaking of stylish, fashionable, and exceptional taste; our buyers have just returned from market. From LA to New York, everyone agrees 2013 is the year of the dress: everything from ultra feminine and curve defining to straight-cut asymmetrical. Dress, dress, dresses are here in abundance! We have a little something for everybody. Stretch lace, wrap styles, and tunics all in lovely spring colors. We are also carrying everyday frocks, at a lesser price point. Come and discover what the Hollywood stars already know about the new lace dresses. These are not your Grandmother’s lace! This stretch lace has a fit and flatter component that is truly special. And as always, you can expect our usual standards of high quality fabrics and classic designs.

So come and try some of our new stock! We recommend being adventurous. Try on styles you have never tried before! Not all dresses have what the industry calls “hanger appeal”: meaning the dress doesn’t come to life until it is on the body. It’s truly the old adage “don’t judge a book by its cover”. Many of the newer fabrics have a hint of stretch in them, making them oh so comfortable. These new fabrics have also given rise to what we like to call “every woman’s secret weapon” or the shaper. The newest shapers now are more breathable and comfortable. Perfect for reining in some areas while lending to an overall smoother and more elongated look. Now who doesn’t love that?

Molly Dress

Below are our staff favorites and what we call “Absolute Must Haves”. Be sure to ask about them and try them on. We think you will love them as much as we do!

Molly Dresses– Our own, in-house designer makes these custom dresses. We are currently showcasing the “Infinity dress”. This dress shows us how one dress can turn into at least 20 dresses and yes, we provide instructions!

Myrca Pac Jackets– The original is back. Ladies, if you only own one rain jacket, this is the one. It has slight bell shape, pockets and a unique stacked collar, (with hidden hood). It is sophisticated enough to take you to a black tie dinner in Paris while being unpretentious enough to be worn daily. It is reversible and packable. Current colors are lime green, electric blue and sorbet. All colors reverse to black. Ingenious!

Ibex – You will never believe you are wearing wool. Many people think all wool is s13-logothe same. Not true of Ibex, nothing itchy or scratchy here! Made from the finest New Zealand sheep. Start to finish one piece of clothing can take up to twelve months to make. Its natural properties of odor- free and moisture repelling qualities make Ibex the ultimate travel piece and for our Southern Oregon climate. This natural product can easily be worn year-round, as it is warm in winter and cool in summer. Machine washable! Currently available are pants, tights, t-shirts, and skirts. These are pieces you will reach for season after season, year after year!

Mavi Jeans– We LOVE these gold_04jeans. You will never want to wear you regular jeans again after trying these. The comfort and stretch are unparalleled. They fit, they flatter, and they don’t bag. A staple in every woman’s wardrobe!

Happy spring to all. We hope to see you in Nimbus!

Restaurants a Plenty

Here in Ashland, Oregon, we are blessed with not just an abundance of restaurants, but an abundance of great restaurants.  Ashland is a Foodie’s playground, and choosing a restaurant to eat at can become overwhelming.  So we’ve decided to make the decision a little easier by offering our opinion.

I’ve gone and collected the general favorites of our employees, and have listened to the opinions of our customers as well.  Here are the top picks:

Ruby’s Neighborhood Restaurant

This was our top pick for Brunch/Lunch.  Ruby’s is tucked away just outside of downtown and is a local gem.  They make quick and delicious breakfast and lunch options using organic, local, gluten-free, and vegetarian options to customize your dietary needs. In addition to that, their prices are incredibly reasonable.

Standing Stone Brewing Company

This restaurant is a great stop for anyone who is a beer connoisseur.  They are a brewery and restaurant, but they also serve unique mixed drinks.  Standing Stone is also a crowd pleaser.  They have an extensive menu with a variety of options for those guests who are hard to appease.  In addition to great food and drink, they let you leave with a clear conscience.  Standing Stone is well on its way to becoming sustainable and uses the best and most updated way of renewing energy as well as buying organic, local foods to prepare their meals.

Amuse Restaurant

Want to impress?  Amuse was our top choice for a fancy restaurant.  Amuse uses a classy, modern style and pairs it with their rich food to create a wonderful dining experience.  They also use local and organic foods, but cook them in a french style and pair them with the best of Southern Oregon wines.  The atmosphere is romantic and the service is remarkable.  If you have some extra cash, treat yourself to this incredible restaurant.

So those are our top picks.  Now we want to hear from you!  What do you think?  What are your choices. Let us know!

Nimbus: Lighting the way to “Going Green”

Here at Nimbus, we’ve made a big change.

As an clothing store, shoe store, and art gallery, lighting is one of the most important aspects of our store.  We need people to see what great pieces of art we have and recognize the quality of work that goes into the shoes and clothing that we sell.  In fact, our Men’s shirts are considered a curated collection because every shirt we sell is a limited edition design.  So you can understand why lighting might be important.

Because of this, we have over 125 lights which illuminate our store.  When it came time to start replacing these lights, we took a huge step and decided to switch to LED lights.

So what’s so special about these new lights?

To start, the Halogen lights we used to have were 50W and the LED lights run at 7W.  These LED lights are using more than 80% less energy and also produce much less heat.  This means we have brighter lights for less energy and run the air conditioner less often.

In addition to this, the LED lights are closer to natural light, which allows for matching colors more successfully, which is important when adding artwork to your life.

Here is a website explaining the benefits of LED lights:

This is the next step in a greener future and Nimbus is the first to be entirely LED lit in the Ashland area.  We hope this inspires other businesses to do the same and pave the way to a sustainable city.
